A breath-taking expression from New Zealand's Cardrona distillery. This is a marvellous single malt from an ambitious distillery, just opened in 2015. This dram slumbered for five years in a combination of ex-Oloroso sherry butts and ex-bourbon barrels before being bottled at a mighty 64.9% abv. On the nose, expect vanilla pods, rich fudge, toasted nuts, and walnut whip. The palate brings freshly baked bread, red berries with cream, dried fruits, and candied citrus peel before leading into the warming finish full of baked peaches, cinnamon, and cloves.
