Loosely \nbased on Harold\nRobbins\u2019 novel A Stone For Danny \nFisher, about a\nstruggling young Boxer. Producer \nHal Wallis decided it\nwould make a perfect vehicle \nfor Elvis Presley,\nand so the lead character became \na Singer instead of a\nBoxer, and the whole project \nwas promptly\ntransformed into a musical. It\u2019s one of \nthe best of the\nPresley soundtracks opening with \nthe title track King\nCreole penned by Leiber & \nStoller, followed by\nR&B number Crawfish, and the \ncontrasting\nRock\u2019n\u2019Roll track Dixieland Rock which \nis reminiscent of\nJailhouse Rock. Sadly, it was to be \nthe last truly\ndramatic role Elvis was ever given, and \nPresley himself would\nalways cite King Creole as his \npersonal favouri9
