Sow seeds from April to early June in a well-prepared seedbed, placing them 12mm deep in drills spaced 23cm apart. Transplant when the seedlings are large enough to handle, typically about five weeks post-sowing, ensuring a spacing of 50cm each way. Firmly plant the seedlings and maintain adequate moisture until they are established. This crop thrives in well-drained, moist, rich soil, so it is essential to protect them from caterpillars and aphids as needed while also netting against pigeons during the winter months. Ideal for the kitchen garden, Kalettes are hardy and prefer full sun. They can reach heights of up to 75cm with a spread of up to 50cm.
