Savour the sweet taste of summer with the Thompson and Morgan Melon Alvaro F1 Hybrid Seeds. Its outer flesh resembles pumpkin skin, featuring pale orange with dark green stripes, and emits a rich fruity aroma. The taste is both refreshing and sweet, paired with a succulent texture, making it an ideal treat for a summer afternoon. To cultivate these melons, sow seeds from March to mid-April for indoor production, or from early April to May for outdoor transplanting. Plant melon seeds at a depth of 1cm (½ inch) in trays filled with free-draining seed sowing compost. For optimal germination, maintain a temperature of 20°C (68°F) in a propagator or sealed container inside a plastic bag; germination typically takes 7 to 10 days. Shield the emerging seedlings from direct sunlight to prevent scorching. After germination, transfer individual seedlings into 7.5cm (3 inch) pots and nurture them until they are ready for transplanting into grow bags. Keep the temperature at 20°C (68°F) and ensure the compost remains barely moist to prevent stem rot. Once the melon plants are sufficiently developed, transplant two plants per grow bag or space them 1 meter (3 feet) apart under frost-free glass, or into frames or cloches outdoors. When growing melons outdoors, cover the soil with plastic mulch 3 to 4 weeks prior to planting. Gradually acclimate the plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting them in warm, well-drained, humus-rich soil in full sunlight, with wind protection. Use single rows with a spacing of 50 to 90cm (20 to 36 inches) apart and leave 2 meters (6 feet) between rows. Gently pull some soil around each plant to keep it from touching the plastic mulch.
