Unwins Brussels Sprout Kalettes Garden Mix Seeds are a nutritious cross between kale and sprouts. These frilly-edged green and purple buttons are a British-bred variety.Decorative, tasty (not bitter!) and nutritious, these impressive Kalettes have the flavour of spring greens and are a great alternative to traditional sprouts.The plants are very hardy and can be harvested throughout the cold winter months.Prefers full sunSow: Feb to AprHarvest: Nov to MarSowing IndoorsAlmost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface and lightly cover with a fine layer of compost. Place in warmth at 10–15 °C and keep moist. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant 5 cm apart into trays of potting compost.Growing On / Planting OutGradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions for 2–3 weeks before planting out in summer. Space plants 60 cm apart in all directions.Sowing OutdoorsPrepare a seedbed of finely broken, weed-free soil. Sow seeds thinly in a shallow, pre-watered row and lightly cover with soil. Keep moist until seedlings are established.TransplantingWhen seedlings have about four true leaves, transplant them to their cropping positions, spacing 60 cm each way. Firm in well and water thoroughly during dry spells.AftercareIncorporate fertiliser into the soil before planting to encourage strong growth. Firm plants in well to prevent “wind rock” over winter. Protect with netting or fleece to deter birds and insect pests.
